Tattoo removal has been performed with various tools since the start of tattooing. While tattoos were once considered permanent, it is now possible to remove them with treatments, fully or partially.
The "standard modality for tattoo removal" is the non-invasive removal of tattoo pigments using Q-switched lasers. Different types of Q-switched lasers are used to target different colours of tattoo ink depending on the specific light absorption spectra of the tattoo pigments. Typically, black and other darker-coloured inks can be removed completely using Q-switched lasers while lighter colours such as yellows and greens are still very difficult to remove. Success can depend on a wide variety of factors including skin colour, ink colour, and the depth at which the ink was applied.

LASER TREATMENT FROM START TO FINISH
The Process
You are asked to complete a thorough confidential medical questionnaire to make sure you are compatible with the laser treatment we offer. During the consultation, please ask as many questions as you like to alleviate any concerns.
Patch Test
The process is to shoot three small test dots onto each colour, this should take about a minute or two. This will be to rule out any adverse reactions you may have to the treatment and is very safe. There will be one week between the patch test and your first treatment.
Treatment
Your first full treatment will take approximately five to fifteen minutes during which time most of your tattoo will be treated depending on size, this will be discussed during your consultation.
During your treatment a cooling pad is applied to the treatment area, this will help with any discomfort. After your treatment Aloe Vera cooling gel is applied to the area and covered with a sterile plaster or gauze.
Further treatments are four to six weeks apart to aid in the healing process and to allow your body's own immune system to break down and remove the ink particles into your waste stream.
